Canebrake Connections, October 2008

Good things are happening at Canebrake! What a great place to live, play, belong, (and work). Despite the rocky times with the housing market, gas shortages, and Wall Street issues, we are continuing to grow at Canebrake. Homes and lots are selling, and new members are joining.

The owners’ reception honoring the residents and members was a big success. Over three hundred of you attended, and the electricity in the air about Canebrake’s future was great. Thanks to Alston Noah, Carl Hunt and Billy Christopher for hosting such a fine evening. The owners were all present again at the general Homeowners meeting, and the outcome was again good. Residents had their questions answered directly, and the mood of the crowd was positive and optimistic as they left the meeting.

Our new bartender, Anna Kennemer, has proven to be a nice addition to our staff. Many of you have already met Anna and taken advantage of our new Partinis hours.

Chad Anderson has decided to leave us to go back and obtain his college diploma. The club will not be the same without Chad’s smiling face and “can do” attitude. He has served the membership and management well, and we wish him great success in the future. We hope he will come back and visit us often. Good Luck, Chad!

An exciting upcoming event will be the Canebrake Seventies Party on November 21st. The event is restricted to Canebrake members, and all attendees are required to come in 70s attire. We will have a DJ and the party will be a lot of fun. Mark your calendar now to reserve the date. We will have more details in future emails.

See you at the club,
Jack Sauers

Chef Ron's Special Events A Big Hit

Chef Ron's last two special events were well attended. The new "ribeye filet" was a big hit with everyone who came to Ron's Steak Out. The recent Seafood Bash wowed the members. Ron's featured entre had scallops, bacon wrapped shrimp and orange ruffie stuffed with crab meat. If you missed these epecurian delights, be sure to watch the calendar and make reservations for Ron's upcoming dinners.

Wine Tasting A "Tasty" Success

On Monday, September 15, Canebrake held a wine tasting event at The Lodge. The event was held on the front porch to take advantage of the beautiful early fall conditions while savoring some new vintages. The tasting was conducted by Liz Curbow of Key Selections and featured a variety of selections. Liz took us on a tour highlighting the wine spectrum from sweet white to dry, complex red. Those members in attendance enjoyed the sampling and were also treated to some interesting cheeses presented by Chef Ron. The sage cheese was very popular among the "tasters".

More of these events are planned for the future. If you missed this one, watch for your next opportunity.

Club Member/Resident Reception a Big Success

On September fourth, all Canebrake residents, members and local dignitaries were invited to a reception at Canebrake in their honor. The party was hosted by the Managing Partners, Alston Noah, Billy Christopher and Carl Hunt. Well over three hundred people attended the event and helped make it a fantastic success. Attendees enjoyed a cornucopia of palate pleasing selections from Chef Casey and his staff. All staff members contributed to the evening, assisting with all facets from directing parking to bartending.

Carl Hunt acting as emcee, spoke of the history and the vision past, present and future of Canebrake. He introduced the partners and their wives… Lacey Hunt, Lisa Noah and Suzanne Christopher. An enthusiatic crowd then heard Billy Christopher talk of progress with developmental issues and his "open door" policy. He told of the gains already made in the HOA and ARC. He also announced the release of new homesites in the Shinnecock community. His talk was well received and all were appreciative of the new owners' attitudes about sharing information.

General Manager Jack Sauers spoke next, thanking the owners for their respect, commitment and financial backing. He explained that management staff attitude starts at the top and that the respect they give Jack, makes it easier for him to in turn treat his staff as he wants them to treat you, the members. He said they plan to be ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen. He also spoke of the importance of The Canebrake Residential community and how the success of Canebrake Club goes hand in hand with the neighborhood. Each supports the growth in value of the other and they are directly linked. Jack said he was very excited about the positive affect Billy Christopher has already made in the community. As homeownesr themselves, Sauers said that he and his wife were confident enough to invest their own money into the community. He also mentioned the current membership count and told of a coming Advisory Board to foster communication between membership, management and ownership.

Carl Hunt closed out the speaking segment of the evening thanking the crowd for their participation. Several members stayed around for further discussion and continued enjoyment of a fabulous evening. Even the weather cooperated, the balmy breezes kept the temperature bearable and the rain held off until 8:05.

New Members Reception Held Thursday, August 21st

Both new and old members gathered at the Golf Lodge on Thursday night to enjoy an evening of getting to know our newest neighbors. The reception, held from 5:30 to 6:30, was great fun, and most of the guests stayed for what is always a wonderful dining event, Chef Ron's Seafood Bash.
